Measure once, order right: sizing a dam or pond liner

2026-06-06 · Water Storage

A liner that is a little too small is a big problem. Four measurements and a few habits will help you order with confidence.

Sizing a liner is part arithmetic and part care. The arithmetic is simple. The care is in measuring the finished shape of your basin, not the one in your head.

The measurements

  • Top length and top width of the finished basin.
  • Water depth at the deepest point.
  • Wall slope, vertical or sloping.
  • Anchor allowance for burying the edge in a trench.

Common slips

Measuring before the walls are finished, forgetting the anchor trench and measuring along the ground instead of following the slope. Take a second person and a long tape, then measure twice.

Regular shapes and irregular ones

For rectangular basins, our liners can be priced from your dimensions. For small ornamental or fish ponds see the pond liner. If your dam follows the land, with curves or steps, a custom irregular-shape liner is quoted individually from your drawing or survey.

Protect it from below

A geotextile underlay between soil and liner adds a cushion against small stones and roots.

Fitting it well

Installation matters as much as the product. AQUAEE can arrange liner installation if you prefer expert hands.

Send us your measurements through the contact page and we will help check them before you order.
